Security

SecuritySecurity, fire, and safety alarms mainly use electronics today. Sensors are connected to a control unit usually with a low-voltage wire or narrowband RF signal. These wires are then connected to some form of alarm to deter intruders. Most common security sensors indicate door or windows opening, or sense motion. Hard-wired systems are often used in new construction for economical reasons. For existing structures wireless models are often preferred. Each system is different. Some security systems handle just security. Others handle security, fire, hazard, etc. Alarms are even used on cars. Burglar alarms are sometimes referred to as alarm systems.

Alarm systems are usually monitored by outside companies for economical reasons. Larger corporations may staff their own security personnel. System reliability can be a problem when it causes false alarms. False alarms can occur when an unintended event causes the alarm to trigger even though it was doing its job. A false alarm also occurs when there is an alarm system malfunction. Some insurance companies require that alarm systems be installed to code, and usually by certified contractors. This insures you have a system that will be reliable when needed.
