Mobile Homes

Mobile HomesMobile Homes are homes built prior to June 15, 1976, when the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) code went into effect. The code was created due to poor construction methods and techniques and created a new building standard to which all mobile homes must meet.

Mobile homes are housing units built in factories. These housing structures are not built on site, but rather transported by semi-trailers. They are less expensive per square foot than site-built homes, and are often associated with rural areas and high-density developments, sometimes referred to as trailer parks. Mobile homes are often popular housing structures for areas near lakes and camping resorts.

In a mobile home subdivision the homeowner owns both their home and the lot, and the developer retains a portion of certain amenities exclusively serving the subdivision. In a mobile home park the owner owns their home and rents or leases the lot.
