Bath

Depending on the cultural context a bathroom may have different functionality. Typically bathroom means ‘a room with a bath in it.’ Many bathrooms today have gone away from the traditional bath and moved to more contemporary stand-up shower rooms. So, bathrooms now refer to a room where one bathes. Some bathrooms contain both bathtubs and showers. These rooms often contain sinks, cabinets of some kind, and maybe a closet. Bathrooms are sometimes called a lavatory.

Americans commonly refer to a bathroom as a room with a a toilet. Other countries typically use the term toilet, water closet, or lavatory. In America, there are different terms as to the amount of ammenities in a bathroom. A full bath contains a sink, toilet, shower, and bathtub. A half bath contains a toilet and sink. A ¾ bath contains a sink, toilet, and shower.

There are many alterations that can be made to bathrooms to make them more appealing. Closets help improve storage. Lighting is usually important for hygiene purposes. Both hot and cold water must be installed to sufficiently clean the body. Mirrors are also a great addition. Bath mats are often used for drying purposes, and to prevent people from slipping.
