Air Conditioning & Cooling

Air Conditioning & CoolingAn air conditioner uses a refrigeration cycle to take heat from or provide heat to an area. They are most commonly used for cooling and heating in homes or buildings. In motor vehicles they are used for cooling only. HVAC systems combine heating and ventilation units. By reversing the cycle of AC units, heat is produced. Central air is an A/C system using duct work to pass cool air to one or more rooms. Some use piping to deliver cool water to heat exchangers.

When the air distribution unit switches on, room air is drawn through return ducts to parts of the home. Filters remove dust and other particles. Filtered air travels through the duct work back to the rooms. If the AC unit is running, this process continues to repeat itself.

Most air conditioning unis are placed outdoors to reduce noise. Outdoor units use refrigerant, which is piped under pressure to an indoor heat exchanger which circulates the air in the building. The indoor heat exchanger is usually fitted with a condensation collection system. Although, air ducts can become extremely dirty over time. Owners should be aware of this type of issue and have the unit maintained by a professional.
